The Con of the Yarn
Yarn Con (a Chicago based indie fiber fest) has been my focus for the past 6 months. Raising funds for stock, ordering yarn and dye, dying the yarn, settling business matters, and planning out a booth has taken up the better part of my summer. But with all confidence I can say that I am a small business owner. A teeny business owner really but I am so proud. In 7 days I will turn 30 on the 30th of September, who knew I would be where I am now? I might not have travelled the world like I wanted (I leave that up to my friend Theresa Winters), nor have I become a world renowned chef (there's still time for that). I am ready to embark upon the adventure that is this venture, The Wool Dispensary. With a little luck we will sell some yarn tomorrow at Yarn Con and that will allow me to buy more yarn which I will then sell. And people will go on to create wondrous heirlooms from my pretty colored yarn and the recipient's of those hand knits will cherish them for time immemorial! Grand vision huh? Really it boils down to doing something I love. I love theatre, I love cooking, I love my dog but I really don't want my career in any of those areas. I really love yarn and connecting with people. Knitting let's me do both and The Wool Dispensary will let me do even more. I am looking forward to tomorrow with butterflies in my stomach. I know it will go smoothly and if it doesn't we will deal with it as it comes. A week and a half ago I got to have my little moment of freak out and since then.... it's been smooth sailing. I don't expect there not to be waves, after all it's not sailing if there isn't any swells. I hope we will see you there!
